• What is a Life Group?

The heart of the Life Groups ministry is the desire to see a community of believers worship Jesus, love one another, and embody the mission of Relate Church. We do this by growing the church and developing flourishing relationships with God and people. At Relate Church, LG’s are the place where discipleship and care takes place. It is where we encourage one another to be followers of Jesus and where our church loves, cares and challenges one another. As well, it is within community that we engage culture and bring a living Jesus to a dying world. It is our desire to see every member of Relate Church loved, cared for, and challenged within a thriving community, and for our neighbours to experience this same sense of community.

  • I am new to Relate Church. Am I ready for a Life Group?

A Life Group is a gathering of people from the church that get together weekly to share life and support one another. Life is hard. It was never meant to be lived alone. Life Groups help us experience the good news of Jesus in profound and tangible ways. If you are new to the church this is the perfect place for you to belong, ask questions, and wrestle with your faith in a community of people who care for you, not because your life is together, but because you are created in the image of God. LG’s are a place where we experience genuine community. It is a place where we encourage and challenge one another to develop flourishing relationships with God and those around us. In Life Groups, people talk through life issues, eat together, pray together, laugh together, struggle together, and serve others as Jesus served us.

  • Why are Life Groups so important to Relate Church?

Getting connected at Relate Church means participating in both the weekend services and a Life Group. When the church first started in 1986, the church was birthed out of a thriving Life Group. Relate Church is built upon and continues to build on flourishing relationships and the study of the bible in a home group setting. Sundays are a time of worshiping together, hearing the Word taught, and gathering as a greater group. Life Groups are the place where we further discuss the weekend teaching and apply it to our lives. It is the place where we build relationships with one another and live life together. Our groups are also an opportunity to love and bless the community around us in unique ways.

  • What should I expect when I go?

Each Group is unique as the group reflects the community in which it exists. However, you can expect a weekly gathering that involves food, conversation, prayer, discussion for applying the Bible to practical living, and service in the neighbourhood. Community Groups are an environment for building relationships with one another and for applying the Bible to our lives. Most Groups follow the Sunday sermon series; although some may choose to study alternate material. Community groups are much more than a Bible study however, they’re a place where we can laugh, cry, work and play together. This means you could expect dinners, hospital visits, serving opportunities at a conference, bowling, and more.
