  • The Good Builder

    Friday, March 11, 2011

The strength and longevity of any structure is dependent on the foundation which it’s built upon. Jesus explains this in the parable of the two builders (which you can see in Matthew 7: 24-27 look it up!). To sum it up: one guy builds his house upon the rock – and his house withstands everything; the other guy builds upon sand – his house comes crashing down.

When my neighbourhood was still new, my house was one of the few completed. Everything else looked like a pile of wood and concrete and I thought that’s how it would be forever. It felt so sudden when one day I realized that all of the houses were completed. When I asked my dad how this was possible, he explained to me it takes time to lay the foundation properly. He told me that once there is a good foundation, the builders can have confidence in the rest of the house.

Now think in your life about all the things you are building: careers, reputation, relationships... etc. If you have a poor foundation for any of those wonderful things, no matter far you build, it may take not even a gust of wind for it all to get destroyed. One slight shift and you’ve got to start all over again. Many situations, both good and bad, are bound to come and go in your life but God promises that if you build your life around Him and His Word you will be a formidable opponent against anything that tries to shake you.

Don’t spend your life re-building the same old shack when God wants you to have a castle.

See you at Wildfire, friends. And BYOBible.

  • When times get tough. Pray.

    Thursday, March 10, 2011

Pray: to offer praise, thanks, etc. to God.

I LOVE that, so much. And it got me thinking a bit about what Prayer really is and why we do it. I was sitting down recently thinking about all the things that have gone wrong in my life in the past and recently as well, and I just sat there thankful that I had Jesus in those situations. I find that when something goes wrong, people, and youth especially turn to the world, and all those things that change your focus off of God. But what if in those times, you turned your focus on God?  What if, at those times you took the time to just pray? I tell myself in tough times, that if I couldn’t handle it, God wouldn’t have put me in the situation that I was/am in. And honestly, it takes no strength to blame everything on this world, and on others, but why does it take so much to just sit there and pray?  He listens even when you think no one cares. He is there and wants you to come to him. No prayer is too small or too big for him. It may be the crappiest situation like your parents getting divorced, or losing a friend, or maybe even just failing a test, but without God, there is no way that you could get through the “tough stuff.” Even Jesus prayed when he was being crucified! And that was tough! So, turn to God when things are tough, he’s always listening even when you think no one is. Things may suck but you’ll always have God.

Don’t worry about anything, instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6

    See you guys on Sunday!
